about

midnight hour is a set of threads my best friend orie and i did back in late 2021. they take place in a spinoff universe of the anime puella magi madoka magica, following most of its lore at the beginning and then branching off into its own thing.

midnight hour follows two characters: marnie and emma. marnie, who doesn't know she knows emma, and emma, who does.

though the group these were based in was concluded in a way i didn't find satisfactory, marnie and emma's arc is really strong and i think is one of my best representations of queer love and loss. it's a story about how love conquers all and it's a story about how love can be both our undoing and our solution (much like most of orie and i's characters together--lol). i'm really fond of this set, so i hope you enjoy!

characters

marnie song

a "human being" (read: witch familiar who doesn't know she's a familiar) who is coincidentally afraid of the magical secret world. marnie is a cheerful and stylish person who isn't afraid to speak her mind and is always doing her best to look out for others.

oh, and another thing. her best friend has been missing for about a year now, and marnie is determined to get her back no matter what.

emma miller

the world's most normal magical girl (literally: her wish was to be normal and she got it a little too well). emma is the textbook average of anything, resulting in absolutely nothing of substance about her.

she wasn't always like this, though, and she still carries the memories of her past life as noemi plath. though she could fess up and talk about it, she doesn't want to stain the associationn of noemi with her own person, especially seeing as she's magically incapable of change.

noemi plath

a ghost in the story. marnie's best friend and emma's previous identity. noemi was a shining star of everywhere she went: talented, pretty, kind--everyone expected her to go far. the pressure got so bad that, upon being offered a wish, she wished to have a normal life. this ended badly.
